Lois Gaertner, 91, of Farmingdale passed away at home on Saturday, October 22, 2016. She was born and raised in Irvington, to the late Sterling and Lillian Post. She married Theodore Gaertner in 1949 and together they moved to Spring Lake and then Neptune. In 1956, they settled in Farmingdale to raise their children. Lois served as a secretary for the Farmingdale Board of Education for 25 years. After retiring from education in 1987, she worked for 10 years as a tour guide where she had the opportunity to travel both the states and abroad. A member of the Pierce Memorial Presbyterian Church, Farmingdale for over fifty years, Lois was an elder in the church. She served as a deacon for two terms, served 10 years as co-treasurer for the church and, for several years, was on the music and worship committee.
She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore Gaertner; and her siblings, Sterling, Robert, Kenneth and Evelyn Post. She is survived by her sons, Rich Gaertner and his girlfriend, Chris Piazza of Freehold, Ken Gaertner and his wife, Cathy of Farmingdale, and Billy Gaertner and his wife, Lynn of Jackson; granddaughters, Kelly Gaertner and her husband, Ken Benoit of West Hartford, CT, and Randi Gaertner and her boyfriend, Andy Bohlin of Farmingdale; and great-grandchildren, Stella and Luke Benoit.

A memorial service will be held at Pierce Memorial Presbyterian Church, 42 Main Street, Farmingdale on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11:00 AM.
