Obituary for Thomas "Tom" Peacock Jr.

Thomas "Tom" Peacock Jr.
Thomas Peacock, Jr., 80, of Freehold Township passed away suddenly at home on Monday, January 25, 2016. He was born in Newark, and had lived in Kearny, Edison and Metuchen prior to settling in Freehold Township in 2004. Tom graduated from Seton Hall and earned his Masters of Arts Degree in Education through Kean University. He summered in Brigantine as a child, returning there to purchase a vacation home in 2003. Tom worked for the Newark Public School District, as an Early Childhood and Special Education teacher. He retired as a Teacher Trainer in 2000. He was a parishioner of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, Freehold Township, where he served as Vice President of Community Support of the Father Benedict Ministry, and as part of the Freehold Clergy Association Emergency Housing Program. In addition, Tom had great devotion to the mission of the Dominican Nuns of Summit. In retirement, he was a consultant at Robert Treat Academy in Newark.
Tom was predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth Grant; and his in-laws, Roland James and Vivetta (nee Palumbo) Coletti. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Vivette Peacock of Freehold Township; his son, Ian Thomas Peacock and his wife, Sarah, of Philadelphia; his grandson, Sullivan Thomas Peacock; one sister-in-law, Cynthia Gatto and her husband, Frank, of Southlake, TX; two nephews, Frank James Gatto of Los Angeles and Matthew David Gatto of Manhattan; and his faithful canine companion, Maggie.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, January 29, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 9:00 AM for the procession to St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township, NJ 07728 for Tom’s 10:00 AM Funeral Mass. Interment will be private. For those who desire, memorial contributions in Tom’s name may be made to the St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church for the Father Benedict Ministry.
