Muriel B. Vanderhoof of Freehold Township passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Applewood Estates, Freehold Township at the blessed age of 103. She was born in Newark and had lived in Livingston for 46 years before settling in Freehold Township in 2001. After receiving her Masters Degree from Montclair State College, Mrs. Vanderhoof enjoyed a fifteen year career as an English teacher at Cleveland Junior High School and Weequahic High School, both in Newark. She was an avid bridge player who loved to dance. A member of the Montclair Teachers Club and Livingston Womens Club, she was also a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Roseland and St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, Freehold Township.
She was predeceased by her husband, Stephen P. Vanderhoof in 1992; and her brother, Leo P. Burrell. She is survived by her five children, Marilyn Vanderhoof of Madison WI, Martha Garrick of Morris Plains, Stephen Vanderhoof of Durham, NC, Susan Vanderhoof of Manasquan, and Sandra Talbott of Freehold Township; twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 9:00 AM for the procession to her 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Hillside. For those who desire, memorial contributions in Muriel’s name may be made to the American Heart Association, One Union Street, Suite 301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691.
