I've never met Pasquale Villani. My grandmother was Santini Villani. Her brother was Vito. As well as her grandson Vito, Pasquales brother. I wish i would have met him. And wish i could know more of my family. My brother Richard Ciardullo passed away last year. What intrigued me was that my brother and Pasquale were within a few years of age when they passed away. And they were both computer programmers. God bless everyone.

Dear Uncle Pat (Indiana...sorry had to say it ;-) ), I'm not sure exactly what to say. When Aunt Donna called us to let us know that you have slipped away, my heart dropped like a stone. Unfortunately I didn't get to spend much time with you After you were diagnosed. I would've been there if I could. You were a Father, a son, a brother, a husband, and an uncle. All of those you excelled at. You were a wonderful man. I couldn't have asked for a more special person to have in my life. I recall various vacations that I have been on with you, Aunt Donna, Erika, Grandma & Grandpa. We always had so much fun. I remember one time when Annmarie, and Gina came up from Texas to visit. You guys had rented a big van. On the way back from our trip, it was late, so we were tired, and acting goofy Erika, Gina, and myself had started carrying on about Pooh getting stuck in Rabbit's hole, and laughing hysterically We were driving you nuts, and after awhile, you started scolding us to knock it off. Of course we kept it up, just quietly. Then we started singing Melissa Ethrige's "come to my window", in a slow, creepy way. Good times...Good times. There are far too many memories to share. I just want you to know how much I love you, how much I miss you, and how you will never be forgotten. May you live on in each and every one of our hearts.

I never knew Pat Villani, but am still sorry to see him go; have worked with FreeDOS even though I now am likely to spend much more time with Linux, FreeBSD and NetBSD. I offer condolences and best wishes to Pat's family, friends and associates.

I have been friends with Pasquale all my life - since those first days in kindergarten. We were best friends in grammar school and remained friends throughout our lives. I think it was easy for us to become friends because we shared a lot of the same dreams. We both knew that we wanted to be engineers as early as grammar school. We both shared the dream of becoming ham radio operators, each acquiring our licenses before we reached high school. We also shared our rivalries - Pasquale was a Chevy man, I a Ford man, each of us following in our father's footsteps. We loved to fly model rockets in Forest Park with his brother Vito and my brother Phil. I still remember the day Vito flew his model V2 rocket. It crashed terribly. There was an old man watching us that day and when he saw the V2 crash, flying low over our heads, he just shook his head and said 'Yup, just like the real one'. I remember Pasquale and Donna's wedding day as if it were yesterday. He married my wife's best friend Donna. My wife and I always looked forward to and enjoyed Christmas breakfast with them every year. We both shared a love for computers and engineering. We both bought and built one of the first microprocessor based 'personal' computers back in 1976. We always bored our wives with our engineering discussions but they both always tolerated us. They're the best wives anyone could ever hope to be married to. In my early career I worked in New Jersey. Pasquale also started working in New Jersey and we would talk to each other with our ham radios in the car. It made my lonely trip so much easier just to hear a familiar voice during those sometimes difficult drives. Whoever was ahead would radio the other on traffic conditions, upper or lower level of the bridge or Major Deagan or Harlem River Drive. We continued that when we both took jobs on Long Island. In a lot of ways, Pasquale was a dreamer who pursued his dreams. His dream of flying led him to private pilot lessons. After his first bout with cancer, Pasquale always wanted a Vette, so went out a got one after his recovery. Each step in his life he pursued a small part of his dream. That's the way he was, always looking to and attaining his dreams. It pains me to think how we grew apart a little due to life's burdens and geographical distance made it difficult to visit each other for more than once or twice a year. You see, Chris and I moved to Long Island while Pasquale and Donna moved to Freehold. I always thought that someday after we both retired that we would then have the time to enjoy each others' friendship. While I was aware of his condition immediately after his diagnosis, I am still in shock of how rapidly everything happened. For whatever wishful reason I naively thought he had more time. It hurts to know that time is not always on our side. Grief is a very personal thing. I can't imagine what his wife or daughter are going through. For every word written here, I could speak a thousand more. I can recall the past 50 years quite vividly with all the ups and downs. I can appreciate the changes between us: career, life, relationships and everything else. For the handful of friends who I care about, there is now one less, and that change at the moment is quite difficult for me to accept. Rest in peace my friend. I will miss you.

Looking through the pictures from different times in Pasquale's life brings back many wonderful memories for us. Pasquale and my husband, Pat, have been friends for over 50 years. They loved discussing computers and ham radios, since both were licensed ham radio operators, as Donna and I would sit there and roll our eyes. We also used to love flying model rockets along with Pasquale's brother, Vito. Pasquale was a wonderful man who happened to marry my best friend, Donna. It was truly a match made in Heaven. I have also known Pasquale for more than half of my life. We are having trouble dealing with the fact that we will be without his presence in our lives. Our hearts grieve for Donna and Erika. He was a wonderful husband and fantastic father and will be sorely missed.
