Obituary for John B. Garrity Sr.

John B. Garrity, Sr., 94, of Freehold Township, formerly of the Bronx, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 29, 2016. John was born and raised in the Bronx, and had moved to Sayreville to raise his family before settling in Freehold Township in 1980. He was a dispatcher for McLean Trucking, South Kearney for 35 years until his retirement in 1982. John was a parishioner of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church and an active member of the Silvermead Community Club for many years. He enjoyed playing bocce ball and was known around the community as the “Go-To Handyman”.
John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Grace Garrity of Freehold Township; a son, John Garrity, Jr. and his wife, Terri of St. Croix, Virgin Islands; two daughters, Barbara Casey and her husband, Robert of Manchester, and LuAnn Garrity of Howell; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, James Garrity and his wife, Kathleen of Manchester.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524) Freehold Township on Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 10:30 AM for the procession to his 11:30 AM Funeral Mass at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township.
