Michael Abbate, 68, of Fresno, CA passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, May 27, 2016 at Hinds Hospice Home, Fresno, CA. Michael was born in Brooklyn, NY and was raised in Manhasset, NY. Along with his family, he moved to Guam. Michael served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He settled in Fresno, California in 1975, where he raised his family. Michael was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Board Certified Diplomat with his own practice.
Michael was predeceased by his father, Paul Abbate and two brothers, Paul Abbate and Gregory Abbate. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Abbate of Fresno, CA; three daughters, Dara Wood and her husband, Damian of Fresno, CA, Jena Bien and her husband, Geoff of Fresno, CA, and Alina Abbate Fresno, CA; three grandchildren, Zoya Wood of Fresno, CA, Soren Gregory Wood of Fresno, CA, and Misha Bien of Fresno, CA; her mother, Tamara Ivanoff and her husband, Dimitri of Jackson, NJ; a sister, Maria Rossi and her husband, John of Blacksburg, VA; and three nieces, Lisa Rossi, Catherine Rossi, and Christina Rossi-Garman.
Pannyhida will be held at St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, 200 Alexander Avenue, Howell on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 6:30 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral liturgy at the Cathedral on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 9:30 AM followed by his 11:00 AM funeral service. Interment will follow in St. Vladimir’s R.O. Cemetery, Cassville Road, Jackson. All arrangements are under the direction of the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township.
