Obituary for Carl E. Nelson

Carl E.  Nelson
Carl E. Nelson, 66, of Manalapan passed away at home with his loving wife and son by his side on Sunday, December 13, 2015. He was born, raised and lived on Staten Island, eventually settling here in 1989. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served during the Vietnam War. A well-educated man, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Rutgers University and Bachelor of Science in English Literature from the City College of New York. He worked at Holtermann’s Bakery and Alfonso’s Bakery & Pastry Shoppe, as well as co-owned Tottenville Bakery & Pastry Shoppe, all on Staten Island, and eventually owned and operated Carl’s Bakery & Pastry Shoppe in Brick. A huge music fan of all genres, Carl was an avid reader and a prolific writer.
Carl was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Ruth Nelson. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Angela Nelson; his son, Andrew Nelson of Asbury Park; two sisters, Ruthann Wiseman of Union Beach and Susan Slaven of Jackson; two nieces, Meaghan Onofrey and Jessica Fanizzi; and one nephew, Justin Slaven.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 and Thursday, December 17, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home on Friday, December 18, 2015 at 8:45 AM for the procession to Messiah Lutheran Church, 205 Jefferson Blvd., Staten Island for his 11:00 AM funeral service. Interment will follow in Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent. For those who desire, donations in Carl’s name may be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, Lilburn, GA 30047.
